| Playstation continues to stream to cinemas |
Sony continued its push to turn big video games into TV shows and movies for the PlayStation platform when the company announced it would show premieres alongside Netflix shows based on Horizon Zero Dawn at an investor event.
Sony is also working on a movie based on the Gran Turismo series but has yet to find a distributor, and it's likely that Neil Blomkamp will direct it.
The Gran Turismo series has sold over 85 million copies, with the latest release, Gran Turismo 7, hitting stores in March on PS4 and PS5.
The Horizon Zero Dawn series, based on the popular video game Dinobots that roams post-apocalyptic America, is said to be in early development on Netflix. Although, the Gran Turismo racing series has yet to reach dealerships.
Both projects are still in an early stage of development. Therefore, it will likely not be broadcast for a long time. However, the fact that the company continues to release new TV projects and movies shows that it is committed to expanding the PlayStation brand beyond hardware and video games.
Along with the new project, the company has also confirmed that the God of War series, which was first announced on Amazon in March, has arrived on Prime Video Streamer.
PlayStation Productions currently has several other projects in the works. According to Tony Vincera, CEO of Sony Pictures Entertainment, there are 10 projects in total.
The company will work on the following:
- Twisted Metal . series
- God of War Show
- Quote from The Last of Us
- Ghost of Tsushima movie
- Metal Gear Solid movie
Sony and PlayStation Productions are expanding their projects based on popular video games. The move began earlier this year with the movie Uncharted starring Tom Holland. The film grossed over $400 million at the worldwide box office.
What is clear is that PlayStation Productions is plunging into the film sector. The news also reveals that the Japanese company is continuing its partnership strategy with various broadcasters.
It looks like the company wants to make sure you see your video game characters regardless of subscription. Sony said during an investor briefing that the competitive broadcast war is in its favour.
It is said that it is not the company's only move to expand the PlayStation brand beyond the console audience. The company recently announced that it also intends to significantly expand its gaming business on PC and mobile devices.
