| Amazon lets you use Amp to host your radio show |
Amazon has launched a new mobile app called AMP to compete with Clubhouse. Focusing on listening to music more than sitting and chatting, the app allows people to create live radio shows where they can DJ by taking incoming calls and playing tracks from tens of millions of licensed tracklists.
According to Amazon, the app is available in the US as a limited beta. The app description in the App Store says: Amp makes it easy to share your favorite sounds and songs with the world. Choose a show title, create a playlist and start playing your radio program.
The new app marks Amazon's late entry into the live audio market. The Clubhouse is at the fore in creating a new format for live audio social interaction.
But the idea has been embodied by several competitors, including Twitter Spaces, Facebook Live Audio Rooms and Spotify Greenroom.
However, most of Clubhouse's competitors focus on live broadcasts like podcasts. Amp differs from Amazon by having access to an extensive music list.
This means that Amp users can listen to, stream and discuss their favorite songs and artists to establish themselves as creators.
You can also use the app to talk about something else like sports or popular culture. But they do so while playing curated music for listeners and answering direct callers.
According to the app's description, content creators can plan and schedule their shows in advance and remind listeners of their upcoming shows. You can also control who speaks when they answer the phone.
It should be noted that content creators do not have to pay for tags to use their music on the radio.
Users sign in with their Amazon credentials or they can create a new Amazon account to use Amp. The company also offers a 24/7 monitoring team that reviews reports and takes action in real time.
Amazon launches Amp Live Radio app
The company said the Amp list includes tens of millions of licensed songs. Producers include Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment Group, Warner Music Group, and other independent music companies such as Beggars Group, Believe, CD Baby and PIAS, with more to come.
As part of the beta release, Amp has also announced a list of upcoming shows, including one from Nicki Minaj, who will soon be bringing back her Queen Radio show for Amp.
Other appearances include Tinashe, Lindsey Sterling, Travis Parker, Tevi Pessoa, Nikita Dragon, Zack Sang, Cat Corbett and Christian James Hand.
