Windows 11 gets new touch gestures and starts menu folders

Microsoft introduced new touch gestures, redesigned Start menu folders, task management, and many other Windows 11 improvements.

The new version of Windows 11 is now available to testers and includes new features that appear to significantly improve the operating system's overall usability.

The new Start Menu folder allows operating system users to customize the Start Menu partition that is installed in folders. You can drag an application to another to create a folder. You can also rearrange and delete apps in folders.

The ability to rename folders will be available in a future beta. It is useful to see more customizations in the Start menu, although there are not many ways to change the design of the Start menu in the system.

If you love gestures in Windows 8, the company will soon introduce five new touch gestures for the latest operating system to make using your tablet easier.

The first is the ability to swipe up on the taskbar to bring up the Start menu and swipe down to hide it. You can also browse for installed apps, recommended apps, and more in the Start menu.

A new third touch gesture lets you swipe in from the taskbar's lower right corner to bring up the quick settings menu, which is useful when you need to quickly switch to Airplane mode or access Bluetooth settings.

Animations have also been improved, bringing the notification center. There is also a new full screen widget in the touch screen app that prevents you from swiping away from the edges of the tablet screen.

The company also says that rotating your device between portrait and landscape modes is faster and more responsive.

The snap layout feature has also been improved so you can drag the app to the top of the window and see all the layouts you can use.

The company is also working on improving the focus feature to include a Do Not Disturb mode. This makes it easy to quickly turn off notifications so you can see priority alerts.

Windows 11 drags and drops over the taskbar again

Live subtitles will appear soon and can be accessed using the keyboard shortcut Winkey + CTRL + L. Live translation is great for people who are deaf or hard of hearing.

They are automatically generated on all devices from anything that has sound. Subtitles can float in a window or appear at the top or bottom of the screen.

Other improvements include the ability to drag and drop to the taskbar, a feature that has been missing since its initial release.

Microsoft has also simplified how OneDrive storage is displayed in File Explorer and improved Quick Access so you can pin files and folders.

To reduce the computer's overall power consumption, Microsoft is changing the default settings for sleep and screen off in power settings.

If you installed a fresh copy of the operating system, you will see these new settings. But newer computers should offer more efficient options for sleeping and turning off the screen.

The company brings revised task management. The new look includes a new command bar and a darker look, as well as an efficiency mode that lets you determine which apps are consuming system resources.

New Windows 11 features are still being tested. This means that some of them may appear in monthly updates throughout 2022.

The company released its first major update for Windows 11 and also revealed that it will introduce new features only once a year.
