Samsung's new tablets are getting bigger |
Samsung has released the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra, a tablet with a 14.6-inch OLED display.
At $1,100, the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra is the best product in the Galaxy Tab S8 line, which includes the Galaxy Tab S8 and Galaxy Tab S8 Plus.
The Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra follows the same approach that Samsung uses with its ultrawide smartphones. It's larger and more feature-rich than other models in the range.
The Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra has a screen refresh rate of 120Hz and a resolution of 1848 x 2960 pixels.
It has up to 16GB of RAM, 512GB of storage, dual front cameras and the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon Gen 1 chip.
The new Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra's display is 20% larger than the 12.4-inch screens of the Galaxy Tab S8 Plus and Galaxy Tab S7 Plus.
Two front cameras (both 12 megapixels) are clearly visible. Samsung has added auto framing for the camera, which tries to keep you centered in the frame during a video call.
It also has the ability to dim the background of calls. There is also a three-way microphone with three different types of noise cancellation for clear sound.
Samsung will include the S Pen with all Galaxy Tab S8 models. But keyboard skins cost more.
The device is running Android 12. The company owns Dex, which provides a desktop-like environment with windowed apps, taskbar, and other features when the tablet is keyboard-mounted.
The company also claims to have a multi-window mode that lets you split your screen between three different apps and change the size of each window.

Other new features in Dex include the ability to operate in portrait mode and turn a tablet into a wireless touchscreen for a paired computer or phone.
You can also drag and drop files between devices, like Apple's universal commands between Mac and iPad.
The other two devices in this group, the $700 Galaxy Tab S8 and the $900 Galaxy Tab S8 Plus, are direct replacements for their Galaxy Tab S7 predecessors.
The Galaxy Tab S8 features an 11-inch LCD screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, and the Galaxy Tab S8 Plus features a 12.4-inch OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate.
Both feature a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, four Dolby Atmos speakers, 8GB of RAM, up to 256GB of storage, and a 12MP front camera.
All Galaxy Tab S8 models come with Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2. However, the Galaxy Tab S8 Plus offers optional 5G cellular connectivity.
The company will start pre-orders for the Galaxy Tab S8 on February 9. Shipping is scheduled to begin later this month.
