Apple offers 27% commission in the Netherlands

Apple has announced plans to charge dating app developers a 27% commission on all in-app purchases made through alternative payment systems in the Netherlands.

The change follows an order from the Dutch competition regulator asking Apple to allow dating app developers to use an alternative to Apple's in-app payment system in the country.

The 27% commission is just a 3% discount on the 30% that the company usually charges developers through its payment system.

The announcement comes after Google proposed a 4% cut in commissions for developers using alternative payment systems in South Korea.

The proposal comes on the heels of a law passed by the country last year. South Korea's new rules will take full effect on March 15.

According to Apple documents, dating app developers in the Netherlands can now apply to use an alternative payment system.

You can choose whether they offer a third-party payment system in the app interface or link to an external website to complete your purchase.

The company said it has also asked dating app developers to provide a separate binary app in the Netherlands to enable alternative payments.

Apple reiterates its opposition to offering alternative payment methods

Dutch regulators last week fined the company 5 million euros ($5.7 million) for failing to meet its requirements, which will be repeated weekly until the company meets the requirements.

The reason for the fine is that it did not create an alternative payment system. It also has barriers that prevent developers from leaving its payment system.

The solution offered by the company may be too difficult to offer much benefit to the developers. The company insists it is against offering alternative payments.

He said it would reduce user experience and create new threats to users' privacy and data security. He also said he would appeal the Dutch competition authority's decision, although he intended to comply with the order at the same time.

South Korea and the Netherlands are battlegrounds for broader antitrust scrutiny of App Store policies.

Last year, a judge in the United States ordered the company to allow developers to connect to third-party payment processors. This was in response to a legal challenge by Epic Games, although it was later suspended on appeal.
