Sony confirms PlayStation VR2 name |
Sony has confirmed that the next virtual reality headset will be called the PlayStation VR2. Jim Ryan, President and CEO of Interactive Entertainment, announced the company's name at the International Consumer Electronics Show 2022, commemorating the first public appearance of the PS5 logo on the Las Vegas stage two years ago.
Sony has not yet revealed the appearance of the headset itself. But many of its technical specifications are already known. PlayStation VR2 is compatible with PlayStation 5.
The company also detailed the game consoles back in March, which are now officially known as Sense. The headset supports haptic feedback, eye tracking, 4K HDR, a 90/120Hz frame rate, a 110-degree field of view and is connected to the PlayStation 5 via a USB-C cable.
For a high definition viewing experience, PlayStation VR2 offers 4K HDR and a 110-degree field of view. With OLED screens, gamers achieve a display resolution of 2000 x 2040 pixels per eye and a smooth frame rate of 90/120 Hz.
PlayStation VR2 follows you from the inside out and follows you and your console through the VR headset's built-in camera. Your actions and the direction you look are reflected in the game, and no external camera is required.
PlayStation VR2 Sense technology combines eye tracking, headset feedback, 3D audio, and Controller Sense to create a deep sense of immersion.
Sony confirms the horizon
Headset feedback is a new sensory feature that can enhance the player's senses while playing. They are generated by a built-in vibration motor that adds clever touch elements and brings players closer to the gaming experience.
For example, the player can feel the character's pulse at a point of tension or the impact of an object passing near the character's head.
In addition, PS5 Tempest 3D AudioTech brings the player's surround sound to life and brings a new sense of immersion.
PlayStation VR2 recognizes your eye movements through eye tracking. Therefore, a simple glance in a certain direction can create an additional entry for the character of the game.
This allows players to interact more intuitively in new ways. It also allows for increased emotional response and expression, giving the game a new sense of realism.
Ryan also announced the first new and exclusive full-scale game for PlayStation VR2, Horizon Mountain Calling.
The game was launched after Horizon Forbidden West, which will be one of the company's major releases in 2022. However, there is no indication of a release date for the games or headphones.
