Polestar anticipates the next electric SUV |
Polestar has unveiled its upcoming Polestar 3 electric SUV, which will be the first high-performance Volvo sub-brand to be produced in the United States.
The Swedish automaker has shared the first image of a new luxury electric car that can be compared to the BMW iX and Jaguar I-Pace.
The next electric SUV to be launched in 2022 belongs to the high-end market category.
This puts it in competition with electric cars such as the Tesla Model X, Audi E-tron, Mercedes EQC, Rivian R1S and Fisker Ocean.
The Polestar 3 is assembled at Volvo's plant in Charleston, South Carolina. This makes it the company's first electric vehicle in the United States.
The Polestar 3 is not only a larger SUV than the Polestar 2, but it also includes a partially automated drive system for highway driving.
This is thanks to the lidar sensor from Luminar. Volvo has also fitted components for hands-free calling on the highway.
Volvo has announced the introduction of a hands-free highway driving experience as part of its next major platform upgrade, the SPA2.
The SPA2 will hit the market in 2022 with the next generation of the XC90 and Polestar 3 SUV. The SPA2 also supports XC40 and C40 refills.
Polestar was originally a performance sub-brand of Volvo and has grown into one of the most attractive electric vehicle manufacturers on the market in recent years.
The company is jointly owned by Volvo and its parent company Geely, and it recently announced its intention to go public through a merger with a private acquisition company, or SPAC.
Two cars have been launched so far, the $155K Polestar 1 hybrid coupe and the fast, all-electric Polestar 2 sedan.
Polestar 3 will be launched in 2022
With the introduction of the Polestar 3 electric SUV in 2022, the Polestar 4 electric SUV in 2023, and the Polestar 5 sports sedan in 2024, this range will also be expanded.
The company did not reveal any information about the Polestar 3, including price, battery size, range and engine configuration.
Polestar 2 is equipped with a 78 kW battery that can offer a range of up to 470 km. The electric motor also produces 408 hp. This allows acceleration from 0 km/h to 100 km/h in less than five seconds.
Additionally, the car was harassed at an event in Manhattan where the company's three-year business plan was briefly presented to investors.
“We are not a virtual company waiting to build factories and sell cars,” said Thomas Ingenlatt, the company's CEO. We are a real company that manufactures and sells cars all over the world.
He added, "Our cars are sold in 14 markets around the world. We expect worldwide sales to reach around 29,000 vehicles this year.
