P50 Pocket: Huawei's foldable phone |
According to an article posted on the company's official Weibo account, Huawei is preparing to launch a new foldable phone called Huawei P50 Pocket later this month.
Unlike the previous foldable Mate X, which folds from a tablet-sized device to a smartphone, the P50 Pocket uses a clamshell design that folds down to the size of a smartphone when folded. Its design is similar to that of the Samsung Z Flip or the Motorola Razr.
The Chinese edition of Harper's Bazaar, an American monthly women's fashion magazine, posted a photo with the P50 Pocket.
This phone appears to have a similar curvature to the dual-ring camera found in the Huawei P50. But the bottom ring has been reused as a small external display and it appears that it can display notifications or act as a viewfinder for the camera.
According to reports, this phone comes with a side fingerprint sensor for security, and the available colors include silver and gold.
Huawei is reportedly no stranger to foldable devices. It has previously released the Mate X, Mate XS and Mate X2 mobile phones.
Huawei has released a statement that it is preparing to launch in China on December 23, and it is not clear if the P50 Pocket will be launched worldwide.

The P50 Pocket is clearly a device for fashionistas and is also an attempt to capture market share from the Galaxy Z Flip 3.
Appearance is the main selling point of this phone, which means that specs like the chipset and Harmony OS may not be that important to potential buyers.
When it comes to specs and features, we know nothing yet. However, the Snapdragon 888 chipset can also be used without a 5G modem. The triple camera can be ultra wide angle, ultra wide angle and telephoto.
The company has launched its latest flagship smartphone, the P50, in regions outside of China after its launch in July. The company is still subject to US sanctions that limit its ability to purchase hardware components. The ban also means that it cannot pre-install Google apps and services on mobile phones.
