Microsoft is trying to prevent you from downloading Google Chrome

Over the past few months, Microsoft has been working hard to get people to use their browser more often.

The software giant does not like Windows users who download Google Chrome instead of using their browser. But the company has now stepped up its efforts to allow people to continue using its built-in browser.

When users go to the Google Chrome download page, new prompts appear in Windows 10 and Windows 11 to prevent users from installing Google Chrome at the same time.

When someone tries to download Google Chrome through Microsoft Edge, the software giant will pop up to remind them that their browser was built using the same Chromium technology as Google Chrome and advise them that they don't need a new browser.

It also displays messages that its browser is more secure than Google Chrome and is the best browser for online shopping.

When you search for "browser" or "download browser" on the Bing search engine, you'll see some suggestions from Microsoft Edge.

These are not pop-ups or messages you usually find on websites. It is provided locally by EDGE. Other sites cannot display similar messages.

Sometimes, when you use search engines or other services, Google sends pop-ups and messages like this. But Google allows it to be deactivated. This is not the case with Microsoft Edge.

These messages are different from the messages Google displays when you start Edge and use its online services, which are displayed on web pages when you visit services like Google Search and Gmail.

The search giant used the posts to encourage users to switch from the Edge browser to Google Chrome.

Keep Microsoft messages away from Google Chrome

The news from Microsoft came more than three years after the company began testing a method that warns Windows 10 users against installing Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. These tests have not yet been published. But these messages are now appearing in front of Windows users.

The software giant also made it more difficult to change default browsers in Windows 11, forcing people to use Edge through Windows Update.

The latest news came after the company was widely criticized for integrating a shopping and payments tool into its browser that encouraged users to take advantage of short-term financial services.
