HMD Global Backtracks On Nokia 9 PureView Upgrade

Although HMD Global, the manufacturer of Nokia mobile phones, has been a bit slow at times when it comes to updating mobile phones. But it kept its promise, delivering important Android updates for two whole years. However, according to the company's official Polish website, the Nokia 9 PureView is an exception.

HMD Global has dropped its commitment to bring Android 11 to the Nokia 9 PureView. However, it does offer discounts on new phones to customers who find that their current device is no longer supported.

After hitting the 2019 flagship Nokia 9 PureView with WMC's five-camera array this year, those customers paid between $599 and $699.

According to market research firm Counterpoint Research, Nokia was recognized as the best mobile phone brand for software updates at the time. Therefore, customers can trust both Nokia and HMD Global.

As one of the devices in the Android One plan, the Nokia 9 PureView is equipped with a semi-native version of Android 9. It is expected to receive at least two years of OS upgrades and three years of OS upgrades.

The phone was updated to Android 10 in December 2019. However, no other OS updates have been received since then.

In its statement, HMD Global said that it cannot use Android 11 to update the Nokia 9 PureView because the incompatibility between the camera and software leads to a compromise that does not meet our high standards.

HMD Global does not appear to be up to the technical challenges, as the five cameras were developed with Light, a camera company that has halted its smartphone camera activities. However, the company said that the phone will continue to receive security updates.

HMD Global does not appear to allow current owners to replace unsupported devices with a small number of new ones, but instead is trying to take advantage of affected customers by forcing them to buy new Nokia phones.

HMD Global blames the camera system

According to its website for Nokia 9 PureView users, the company said: For those looking to move to Android 11, we're offering a 50% discount on the Nokia XR20 or any other device depending on regional availability.

The mid-range mobile phone Nokia XR 20 is not a replacement for the flagship Nokia 9 PureView.

After endorsing the Apple iPhone for four years, Android phone makers are trying to differentiate themselves with modeling, but HMD Global's retrospective review of the Nokia 9 PureView update reminds us of the credibility of those promises.

Large companies like Samsung may have more resources to provide four-year security updates for a large number of devices. But smaller companies like HMD Global are struggling in this regard.

You should consider software support when deciding to buy a phone, especially if you plan to keep your phone longer before upgrading.
