| Facebook wants to protect users from hackers |
As part of its ongoing security improvements, Facebook is expanding Facebook Protect, a program that targets people who could be vulnerable to severe attack by hackers, including human rights defenders, journalists, and government officials.

Facebook first tested Facebook Protect in 2018. It expanded it ahead of the 2020 elections in the US.
The global expansion began in September of this year. Since then, more than 1.5 million accounts have activated Facebook Protect, and nearly 950,000 new accounts have been registered with two-factor authentication.
The company plans to expand the program to more than 50 countries by the end of the year, including the United States, India and Portugal.
