Apple and Hayat release hotel keys in Apple Wallet |
Apple is working with Hyatt to enable certain hotel guests to store room keys in Apple Wallet. Instead of checking the room key in your pocket, you can now use your iPhone or Apple Watch to unlock the door and any other area of the hotel that requires a key to enter.
A key new contactless technology is already available at many participating hotels in the USA, which enables World of Hyatt guests to unlock it seamlessly and securely using their iPhone or Apple Watch.
Currently, only six Hyatt hotels in the US support this feature. But Hyatt plans to eat it in hotels around the world.
The hotels currently participating are: Wailea Maui Andaz Resort, Key West Resort and Spa, Hyatt Regency Chicago, Hyatt Place Dallas, Hyatt Place Fremont and Long Beach Key Yue Hotel.
As the first hotel brand to offer room keys in Apple Wallet, Hyatt guests can unlock keycard-protected public areas such as rooms, gyms, pools, and elevators without having to check-in. Open applications or deal with traditional plastic room keys.
This is a significant achievement as Hayat continues to reinvent the guest experience through digital innovation, providing greater control and flexibility during the stay.
To use this feature, you need an iPhone with iOS 15 or higher. Your Apple Watch must be running watchOS 8 and later.
Hyatt advises that once you've made a reservation, you can add your room key to your Apple Wallet using the Hyatt World app.
After booking, you can add the room key to Apple Wallet
The key shows your room number and is only activated when your room is ready for occupancy. If you need to make changes to the part, you can make changes through the app. Your key will be automatically updated. Once you have paid and checked out of the hotel, your keys will also be deactivated.
Apple reviewed this feature and the digital ID feature during WWDC 2021. When enabled, users in participating countries can digitally store their ID in Apple Wallet.
Although Arizona and Georgia are expected to be the first two states to allow residents to store IDs on the iPhone, the launch has been delayed until 2022.
