Twitter launches Twitter Blue subscriptions in the US |
Twitter Blue is a Twitter subscription service adding new features as it expands to new countries and platforms. The service first launched in Canada and Australia for iOS in June. But as of Tuesday, Twitter Blue is available in the US, New Zealand, on Android, and on the web.
Perhaps the most useful feature of Twitter Blue is the cancel button, which allows you to contact them before sending a tweet.
Other features originally released included reader mode for discussion threads and bookmark folders, as well as the ability to design Twitter apps and app icons.Since last month, Labs has allowed subscribers to try out new Twitter features as soon as possible.
But as part of Tuesday's expansion, Twitter Blue is poised to become more useful for people who enjoy reading and finding news on Twitter.
One feature allows users to display ad-free articles on participating websites while providing some revenue from those sites' Twitter Blue subscriptions.
If you're subscribed to Twitter Blue and see a link from a publisher offering an ad-free post, the tag "Twitter Blue Ad-Free" will appear under the title.
This functionality is based on the company's acquisition of Scroll, which provides similar functionality. In October, Twitter announced that it would be publishing it on Twitter Blue.
More than 300 US websites have participated in the project, including The Washington Post, The Atlantic, BuzzFeed, The Hollywood Reporter, Full Discovery and The Verge.
The company hopes to include contributions from outside the United States in the future. The company clarified that if you sign up for Twitter Blue on iOS or Android, the percentage of funding offered to publishers will not change.
In the USA, Australia, Canada and New Zealand
The company pointed out that the ad-free articles feature in Twitter Blue does not allow you to bypass the paid subscription system. Therefore, according to the editor, you may not be able to read some articles even if you are subscribed to Twitter Blue.
There are currently no ad-free items available for Android. The company did not reveal a timeline for when that would change.
Even if you log into Twitter Blue, you will still see ads on Twitter. “We currently do not have any plans to roll out an ad-free product on Twitter,” said Sarah Beckpour, Twitter Product Manager.
Ad-free articles are not the only swipe back feature. Twitter Blue now offers a similar feed to Nuzzel, which refers to posts often shared by people you follow as "24 hour hot posts."
Twitter suspended Nuzzel after acquiring Scroll. But he promised to bring the basics of the product to his stand at some point.
A review of the best articles will not be an email like Nuzzel. Alternatively, you can reach it yourself via Twitter. Although it is only available for Android and the web at the moment. A company spokesperson said it will soon be coming to iOS.
Twitter Blue subscribers can also customize the navigation bar to make it easier to find the area to visit. Navbar customization was initially only available on iOS. In addition, custom themes are iOS features only.
Twitter Blue charges $2.99 per month in the US (or equivalent in Australia, Canada, and New Zealand).
