The Xbox Backwards Compatibility Program is back |
Microsoft discontinued the Xbox Backwards Compatibility Program two years ago. But it came back with the latest update to the list.
To celebrate the Xbox's 20th anniversary, Microsoft has added 76 new games to its backward compatibility library.
This is a long list of add-ons, including the full Max Payne series, Skate 2, Dead or Alive Ultimate, and Star Wars Jedi Knight II.
The Xbox Compatibility Program Manager said, “Thanks to the enthusiasm and feedback from the community, over 70 games are the latest game-changing additions to the Xbox Compatibility Program.
"Continuous demand for some games and improvements from Xbox fans has led the backward compatibility team to partner with original content creators to keep thousands of games across four generations of Xbox."
Any added Xbox or Xbox 360 original game will support Auto HDR on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S platforms. Original Xbox games also include higher resolutions.
Xbox One X and Xbox Series X users found that game accuracy on the original console increased four times and that the Xbox Series S increased three times, and one multiplied by 2.
All 11 new games also have FPS Boost enabled, doubling the original frame rate to a maximum of 60 frames per second.
The FPS boost function also supports 26 backward compatible games. Including the entire Gears of War franchise, Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas.

Microsoft said two years ago that it had no plans to add any other original Xbox or Xbox 360 games to the list. The amazing number of more than 70 games is the last time we will see a new game that is compatible with the previous version.
Compatibility Program Manager said: “As we will continue to focus on maintaining and improving the nature of the game, we have added as many new games as possible to the list. This is due to licensing, legal and technical restrictions.
The company also introduced FPS Boost in 33 xCloud games. Including evil in Fallout 4, Fallout 76 and 2.
