Samsung announces $17 billion chipset factory |
Samsung has announced the construction of a new semiconductor chip manufacturing facility in Tyler, Texas, with the goal of producing advanced logic devices.
It is estimated that the $17 billion investment will directly create about 2,000 new jobs. Once fully operational, the new facility will provide thousands of related jobs.
This factory is Samsung's largest investment in the United States. This funding brings Samsung's total investment in the United States to more than $47 billion. It has since been operating for the first time in the United States in 1978.
The Taylor base is expected to become an important foundation for Samsung's global semiconductor manufacturing capabilities. With the latest new production line in Pyeongtaek, South Korea.
The new factory manufactures products based on the latest technologies such as mobile devices, 5G network, high performance computing and artificial intelligence.
Samsung's move came at a time when a global chip scarcity was disrupting industries from automobiles to electronics.
The company said it will continue to serve global customers by facilitating access to advanced semiconductor manufacturing and meeting the growing demand for semiconductor products.
The company will begin construction of the Taylor facility, which will cover more than 5 million square feet, in the first quarter of 2022, with a goal of becoming operational in the second half of 2024.
After reviewing potential manufacturing facilities at multiple locations across the United States, Taylor's decision to invest in Taylor was based on several factors including the local semiconductor ecosystem, infrastructure stability, government support, and local and community development opportunities.

The company was evaluating other locations such as Arizona, New York and South Korea for the new chip plant and chose Williamson County, Texas because it offered better tax policies.
In July, the company applied for a tax credit to build a chip plant in Tyler, Texas. This is evident from a document submitted to Texas authorities in July.
Samsung, one of the world's largest semiconductor manufacturers, announced in August that it would invest more than $205 billion in semiconductors, biology, technology and global impact over the next three years.
The Biden government is trying to encourage US chip production and reduce the potential for supply chain disruptions. In addition to reversing the decline in the state's share of production over the past few decades.
The Senate recently approved $52 billion to support new chip manufacturing facilities. According to Bloomberg News, despite the fact that CHIPS does not have to pass the House of Representatives yet.
In addition, the chip manufacturing industry plans to increase its production capacities. But many new factories won't be operational anytime soon.
