Robinhood: Hacker accessed the data of 7 million customers |
Trading platform Robinhood announced that more than 7 million customers' personal information was accessed during the November 3 data breach.
The company said in a press release that it does not appear to disclose any Social Security numbers, bank account numbers or debit card numbers. No customer suffered any economic damage as a result of the accident.
Robinhood added that unauthorized third parties were social engineering attacks on phone customer support staff and gained access to their customer support systems.
The attackers managed to obtain an email list of nearly 5 million people and the full names of an additional 2 million people.
For a smaller group of about 310 people, more personal information was revealed, including name, date of birth and zip code, and more detailed account information for about 10 customers was revealed.
The company did not provide additional information on these full details. But a spokesperson said that even those 10 customers are the same. We believe that the Social Security number, bank account number, or debit card number was not disclosed.
The spokesman did not want to say whether customers had become specific targets for hacker attacks. But the company said it had warned those affected.
The platform security officer said: After careful consideration. Now is the time to bring this incident to the attention of the entire Robinhood community.
Social Security Number Not Reached
After trying to contain the attack, Robinhood said an unauthorized third party was looking for extortion payments. The company informed the police. But she did not say if she had paid any money.
Robinhood has received assistance from overseas security firm Mandiant in investigating the incident. "We've seen this author in a limited number of security incidents recently," Mandiant said. We expect him to continue targeting and blackmailing other organizations over the next few months.
Customers who want to know if their account is affected should visit the Help Center on the company's website.
