Qualcomm confirms rebranding of Snapdragon chips |
Chip maker Qualcomm has announced that it will rename its flagship product to the mobile processor series starting this year. This means that there will be no more names like Snapdragon 8xx, 7xx, 6xx, etc.
The company is preparing for the expected release of a next-generation Snapdragon chip, which was previously called Snapdragon 898. It is likely that this chipset will be the first to include the new brand.
Qualcomm is silent about the new naming convention. But he said the new brand name for his portable processor is shorter and simpler.
And his company name will not be part of the processor name, only Snapdragon. Technically, the company did this with the Snapdragon 888 Plus, which did not have the Qualcomm brand when it was officially launched.
The company then abandoned the three-digit numbering system in favor of the single-digit numbering. He also confirmed that the eighth category will remain the main range. However, there may be more information or a change.
It is curious how this naming method enables multiple 8-series chips, for example, the three-digit numbering system allows the use of Snapdragon 888 and Snapdragon 870 at the same time. But it is not clear how the company can do this with just one digit.
According to the company, it has tested two different naming systems for more than 2,000 customers. Qualcomm is likely to announce a new name with the introduction of the next generation of the 800 series chipset. This is expected to be the case on November 30.
