| Google explains why the Pixel 6 scanner is so slow |
Since Google launched the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro phones in October, users have been complaining that the fingerprint scanner is slow and unreliable, making it difficult to unlock the phone.
You can have fun with Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro devices. But fingerprint scanners are not one of them.
The search giant responded to these complaints and issued a statement. But no workable solution is offered. In a Twitter response, the company attributed the issue to improved security algorithms used by the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro's fingerprint scanners.
According to Google, these security measures may take longer to verify your fingerprint or require more direct contact with the sensor.
The company provided a link to a support page that didn't help much and recommended that you make sure your fingers are clean and that you're using the fingers you registered on your phone.
Replies from other Twitter users indicate that it might be a hardware issue.
The Pixel 6 uses a fingerprint scanner at the bottom of the screen instead of a fast, ultrasonic fingerprint scanner like the Galaxy S21. Some users say that this may be the reason for poor sensor performance.
However, other users said that some phones have optical sensors and work faster, like the OnePlus 9. This indicates a software issue specific to Google devices.
Enhanced security algorithms cause problems with the scanner
There doesn't seem to be a clear solution to the Pixel 6's accurate fingerprint scanner. It's unclear if the company can fix the software update issue. Or when the scanner's so-called advanced security system is picky about fingerprints.
Before the company decides to restore the security-scarred face unlock feature, users will have to resort to entering a PIN code. In the absence of a depth sensor, Face Unlock is usually not secure. Face recognition systems are sometimes fooled by masks and images.
