Facebook wants to give you more control over your News Feed

Meta, the parent company of the Facebook platform, said it is testing new ways to let users customize what they see in their News Feed.

"We have developed community standards to maintain the integrity of the platform by defining what is and isn't allowed in our community," the company said. However, this does not mean that everyone wants to see the same content or appear with their interests.

The company stated in a blog post that the test was initially available to a small group of users so users could adjust their preferences to see how much content they see from friends, family, specific groups and home pages goes up or down.

In the past few years, Facebook has made many changes to the way its News Feed delivers content. He seems to have thought about what to prioritize and why.

In 2015, he said he was changing his news feed to include content from close friends, rather than content from brands and publishers.

In 2016, he again said that he is tweaking his algorithm so that friends' posts take precedence over publishers. And in 2018, he said he was changing his news feed to show posts that could spark more discussion than negative content.

In 2020, the company has once again adapted its newsletter to support more reliable, high-quality sources of information. However, it removed this version of its news feed in December 2020, much to the chagrin of some of its employees.

How the social media giant manages its news feed is largely a mystery. But Facebook released a report in September saying the report gave the public some ideas about how to choose to downgrade content. Like posts from people who have repeatedly broken the rules.

If desired, users of the new test can now reduce the sharing of friends, family, home pages, and groups in the newsfeed.

Meta said in a blog post that this is part of their ongoing job of giving people more control over their news feed. Until they see more of what they want and less of what they don't want.

The Company is also making changes to the information controls of its corporate clients. In addition, the topic exclusion control will be extended to the group of advertisers who display ads in the English language.

Advertisers can choose from three groups of topics (News, Politics, Social Affairs, and Crime) to prevent their ads from appearing near posts on those topics.
