Canon launches PowerShot PX home camera

Canon introduced the PowerShot PX, a still camera that uses face detection and automatic subject search to capture 11.7MP photos or 1080p video.

The PowerShot PX is based on the PowerShot Pick Camera, a crowdfunded demo camera that is marketed only in Japan.

The PowerShot PX features a mechanical pan and tilt mechanism that allows the camera to move 340 degrees left and right and 110 degrees up and down, with a focal length range of 19 to 57 mm (35 mm equivalent).

The PowerShot PX has a 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor with a resolution of 11.7 megapixels.

The camera can capture 11MP JPEG photos or MP4 videos at a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels via a 16GB microSD card.

The idea of the camera is that it can be placed in an important place and then scan the scene, find the face and automatically determine the best time to take a picture.

Canon says, "The best pictures don't always make you smile." PowerShot PX can capture many valuable looks and responses that you may not have.

The company stated that this camera can intelligently frame the subject to capture natural expressions and reactions.

You can also prioritize specific faces. In theory, this allows you to enjoy the party without taking pictures, knowing that the pictures were taken automatically. You can also take pictures manually using the app or voice command.

You can also use the PowerShot PX app for iOS or Android to get suggestions on the best photos to keep.

Canon announces the launch of a smart home camera suitable for family time

The image is saved to a memory card and can be downloaded to your computer. The company said that the camera supports wireless networking and Bluetooth for smartphone connections. You can check the image without checking the device.

The camera can also be used as a webcam through the Canon Webcam Tool app. The camera is powered by a rechargeable battery with USB-C charging function.

The PowerShot PX will be available in Europe and the UK in November 2021 priced at £500 / €500 (around $585).

Please note that this concept is not new. Google promised to bring similar functionality to Clips cameras in 2018. However, reactions have been mixed.

Some people think the clips are intrusive while others say that from an ethical point of view, it's no different than taking photos on an Android phone.

The captured videos and photos are not good enough, both in terms of image quality and AI-based timing. The expensive version is also $249.
