| Telegram launches advertising plan for public channels |
Telegram has launched a new ad program called Ad Platform that provides the ability to display sponsored posts through an instant messaging platform.
However, the advertising platform Telegram does this because the way you display your ads is very different from what happens in other places.
According to the company, these ads are not targeted. This means that users are not ranked based on their clicks and preferences.
Advertisers can choose the languages and topics they target. They were given a number of channels that corresponded to this basic demographic.
Provide the same ads to all users of these channels. So there will be no regulation at the individual user level.
Revenue from these advertisements is also shared between the Company and the owners of public channels that broadcast promotional information.
Eligible channels for the advertising platform must be public and have more than 1,000 subscribers. This means that all private channels are automatically excluded.
Since the platform does not collect any information about users or analyze their behavior, it is not only allowed to allow direct targeting, but also not to send advertisements to external links.
Depending on the platform, the reason is to ensure that external entities cannot track users of the platform. So that sponsored contributions do not become an obstacle and impair the usability of the entire platform, they are limited to 160 characters.
While this announcement may surprise some, company founder Pavel Durov has publicly released a plan to launch ads on the platform in December 2020.
As Durov later explained, he has supported the platform financially for the past seven years. While he wants to keep it free for everyone, the growing user base is also pushing the project to find additional sources of income.
Ads reach Telegram
Over the years, the platform's user base has grown steadily and some events have attracted tens of millions of new users overnight.
Currently, the platform is estimated to be used by about 550 million people, making it a profitable advertising platform.
The team estimates that Telegram users generate more than 500 billion ad views each month. Therefore, using it as a new source of income is a huge step towards financial independence.
