Pixel Pass could be Google's answer to the Apple One |
It looks like Google is announcing a new subscription package called Pixel Pass, which combines new Pixel devices, extended warranties, and premium subscriptions to several massive search services.
Leaked images posted by Brandon Lee describe the unconfirmed package. The price of the Pixel Pass is not clear. However, the documents indicate that it was sold to a Pixel device that was purchased via Google Fi and the Google Store.
As he explained to me, the Pixel Pass appears to combine elements of Apple's iPhone Upgrade Plan (which is provided to the iPhone through monthly subscription payments and extended warranty periods) and Apple One subscription service packages.
Pixel Pass can be used to simplify access to all of these services and give you peace of mind by extending the warranty period. Pixel Pass may also offer discounts compared to paying for the service separately, but there is currently no indication of the price of the Pixel Pass.
According to the documentation, the Pixel Pass appears to have up to four subscriptions: YouTube Premium or YouTube Music, Google One, Play Pass, and Google Fi.
These services include video and music streaming, cloud storage, app subscription plans, and cellular network coverage. No mention was made of Google Stadia, the search giant's cloud game streaming service.
Pixel Pass combines many core Google services
The leak indicates that the extended device warranty is similar to Google's preferred service or existing device protection service, providing protection against accidental damage and mechanical failure.
Preferred Care is currently only available in the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. Although device protection can only be achieved through the US Google Fi service. This indicates that the Pixel Pass is only available in North America.
The service appears to be mainly targeting iPhone users who switch from Apple services. But it can come in handy for anyone who wants to dive into the Google ecosystem first.
The Pixel smartphones that offer the Pixel Pass are not mentioned. But since the Pixel 6 event on October 19th. The Pixel Pass is expected to be offered as a companion to the new flagship smartphone.
