Microsoft allows Android apps to be tested under Windows 11

Microsoft is now allowing Windows 11 testers to try out Android apps. The preview version of the Windows subsystem for Android is available to Windows 11 beta testers and allows access to apps from the Amazon Appstore.

All testers using Intel, Qualcomm, and AMD processors can test Android apps on Windows 11.

These apps can be downloaded from the Microsoft Store, which lists many of the apps, then use the Amazon Appstore to download and install them.

Android apps can also be run alongside other Windows apps. It's built into Alt + Tab and Task View, and you can pin it to the Start menu or taskbar.

The company said: You can view Android app notification notifications in the Action Center or share your clipboard between Windows apps and Android apps.

"We took accessibility into account when creating the experiment," she added. Many of the accessibility settings in Windows apply to Android apps. We are working with Amazon to make further improvements.

Microsoft has partnered with Amazon to coordinate 50 apps for Windows Insiders to test on Windows 11.

These apps include Lords Mobile, June's Journey, Coin Master, and other mobile games. There are also reading apps like Kindle and apps for kids like Lego Duplo World or Khan Academy Kids.

These apps are just a small part of the more than 3 million apps in the Google Play Store; There are even more than 600,000 apps available in the Amazon App Store.

It's unclear how many Android apps will be available after Windows 11 makes this feature popular.

Microsoft wants testers to try out Android apps

Microsoft built a subsystem in Windows 11 to support Android apps. This subsystem includes the Linux kernel and the Android operating system based on the AOSP version 11 project.

Hyper-V virtual machine subsystems work just like Linux subsystems. This subsystem includes configuring the AOSP runtime and APIs, memory buffers, input patterns, physical and virtual devices, and Windows graphics layer sensors.

This subsystem supports AMD, Intel and Qualcomm chipsets. The software giant has partnered with Intel to run Arm applications on AMD and Intel hardware.

Microsoft is activating Android apps in the beta channel for Windows 11. Additionally, Microsoft plans to publish a preview version for developer channel users in the near future.

Windows 11 PCs must be configured in the US region beta channel. Also requires an Amazon US account to access the Amazon App Store.
