India gets JioPhone Next instead of Pixel 6 |
India won't get any new Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro phones from Google, and the prices of these phones are out of the reach of many smartphone consumers in the country. So, Google and Indian telecom provider Jio Platforms have launched the affordable JioPhone Next smartphone for India.
Google and Jio platforms designed this phone as an affordable 4G device to meet the unique needs of Indian consumers.
The phone costs 6,499 Indian rupees, or $87, and can be purchased at Jio Mart retail stores in India or from Jio's website.
Google said that users can also deposit Rs 1,999 and choose a payment plan through Jio.
This phone runs on the Pragati operating system, which Google says is an updated version of Android. It can access the apps from the Google Play Store.
The device has text reading and on-screen voice translation, a camera with a Snapchat lens, and a built-in voice priority feature that supports 10 different languages in India.
Among the many rich features of JioPhone Next, said Mukesh Ambani, President and CEO of Reliance Industries, which operates Jio platforms, what impressed me most was its contribution to Hindi language integration. India's unique feature is our linguistic diversity.
JioPhone Next will be available from November 4th. The phone screen is 5.45 inches with a resolution of 720 x 1440 pixels. The screen is protected by a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 3 with a refresh rate of 60Hz.
There is a 13MP rear camera that supports HDR, an 8MP front camera, and a 3,500mAh battery.

This phone uses Qualcomm Snapdragon QM215 Quad Core processor. There is 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of expandable storage.
Google and Jio Platforms have announced a partnership to offer affordable smartphones in 2020. Google has invested $4.5 billion in the telecom company.
According to Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, JioPhone Next is inspired by the belief that everyone in India should benefit from the Internet.
In addition, India will overtake the United States in 2020 and become the second largest smartphone market in the world with more than 400 million smartphone users.
