Did Microsoft fail the Bing search engine? |
Search engines have been one of the main reasons for the growth of the Internet so far. Since the search engine is a professional medium, users can find exactly what they are looking for on the pages of millions of websites. Google has dominated this field for more than two decades, but what about Microsoft's Bing search engine?
No one can underestimate Microsoft's ability to develop technology products and services. But it is undoubtedly difficult to compete with companies like Google in the chosen fields. If Google tried to compete with Microsoft in the PC operating system space, the situation could be similar.
In fact, Google introduced Chrome OS, but it's a very limited system and many non-tech-savvy users might not have heard of it.
But Microsoft wants to keep up with search engines, and it happened in 2005, the year Bing was launched, and the same year Google was founded over a decade ago.
In short, with a few pessimistic and realistic opinions, it is impossible for a company to compete with Google in the search engine space. This is because search on the Internet is associated with Google in people's minds, so the English term Google appeared.
Microsoft Bing search engine
Due to Google's size and extreme specialization, Bing has not been able to directly compete with Google's search engine. But on the other hand, the Bing search engine is actually enough to meet the needs of daily use and search for different content.
There are many reasons why Google outperforms Bing by such a large margin. Perhaps the most important thing is to start early. The search engine Google started in 1999 and Microsoft started developing search technologies in 2005. In other words, before Microsoft started, Google had been developing services for six years.
This makes the Google search engine more complex and efficient, plus Google has a huge amount of data that Microsoft does not have because it is an advertising company.
Google outperforms Microsoft in recruiting and attracting talent to the company. It helps search engines grow and improve faster. In addition, Google invests several times more than Microsoft in this area.
Is Bing a failed product?
Google controls 92% of the global search engine market, compared to 2.5% for Bing, and although these numbers clearly reveal the failure of Bing, this is not true.
This is because Bing still has a large number of users and most users can use it due to lack of technical expertise. This led to the release of the new Microsoft Edge browser, which was mostly based on Bing. In addition, Windows is primarily based on Bing, which means that all searches refer to Bing unless the user changes it.
Bing has not been very successful for Microsoft, but in conditions of low market share, it has been successful in the search engine space. There's no doubt that extensive development of the engine over time will directly help to cover more users, but Microsoft hasn't been desperate to try.
Microsoft provides an app for the Bing search engine on Android and iOS platforms. Due to its beautiful shape, built-in functions and features, it attracts a large percentage of users.
Aside from Bing and Google, we haven't forgotten about the DuckDuckGo search engine. It is unique in the field of search engine privacy and digital security, but its market share is very limited.
Google Bing user search
Not so long ago, Google officially declared in court through its lawyer Alfonso Lamadrid that the most searched word in the Bing search engine is "Google".
Google may intend to publicly downsize Bing, but the main focus is on responding to the antitrust allegations that the company has fallen victim to. This shows that users basically don't want to use Bing and they don't intentionally monopolize the market.
And don't forget that Google was fined up to $5 billion in 2018 for differentiating its search app from other apps on Android.
