Apple's 140W Power Adapter is the first GaN charger |
Apple has confirmed that the new 140W USB-C Power Adapter is the company's first charger based on gallium nitride or GaN technology. Compared to silicon-based chargers, this technology enables smaller, lighter, and more energy-efficient chargers.
Without GaN, the 140W transformer could be larger due to its performance.

This also means that users who purchase the new 16-inch MacBook Pro can use a compatible external charger to charge the computer as needed.
