OnePlus does not have a OnePlus 9T this year |
OnePlus CEO Pete Lau confirmed that the company has no plans to launch the traditional OnePlus 9T in the second half of the year.
He also announced that after the company's integration with OPPO, a subsidiary of BBK, the company's flagship phone will work on a new unified operating system within the next year.
OnePlus announced in July that it would integrate the OxygenOS codebase for the Android operating system into Oppo's ColorOS.
This means that the OnePlus 9T is unlikely to appear after the release of the OnePlus 9 this year. Although the names are similar. However, the company's T-series phones have seen significant improvements over its flagship phones.
The charging speed of the OnePlus 8T is twice as fast as the OnePlus 8. The OnePlus 7T has increased the refresh rate of the original OnePlus 7 screen to 90Hz.
We won't be launching any T series products this year, Lau said. This is the first year since the company approved the 2016 OnePlus 3T release schedule without T series devices.
Since then, the company will launch a new T-series phone in the second half of the year, and the OnePlus 8T was released last year.
OnePlus integrates OxygenOS with ColorOS
Both companies combine the code bases of OxygenOS and ColorOS.
Liu said that these two operating systems continue to have their own unique brands and characteristics. But the code is the same, all developed by one team.
This method creates a fast, smooth, clean and lightweight operating system like OxygenOS. At the same time, it is as reliable, smart, and feature-rich as ColorOS.
Liu said the code base integration between the two operating systems was completed in June, allowing for frequent software updates.
The company's new phones will not only get a new operating system, but also support their old devices.
These support periods include three major updates for flagship phones, two updates for most Nord devices, and one update for Nord N phones.
Oppo has announced that the OnePlus 9 series will receive a beta version of the new software in October. Followed by the OnePlus 8 series in December.
The company stated that it was necessary to integrate its operations with OPPO to improve efficiency while simplifying research and development resources. It's about supporting more products and more efficient processes.
In addition to merging the two companies' operating systems. OnePlus has also announced that it will integrate the Warp Charge fast charging standard into OPPO's SuperVOOC.
Bloomberg reported last week that the merger has led to layoffs, including in the ColorOS development department.
According to the report, up to 20% of employees have been laid off in some software and hardware teams.
