Microsoft is improving the gaming experience in Windows 11 |
Microsoft is expected to create a DirectStorage interface in the next Windows 11, which will allow games to load on the computer faster. The point is to start the game directly via the integrated graphics card without pressing the central unit. This makes the operating system one of the best gaming operating systems ever.
What is DirectStorage and how does it work
This is a storage API designed to reduce game load times by removing the overhead of data flow.
In other words, this feature makes the Windows 11 GPU receive game data faster without taking many steps.
And whenever the game needs to load a file without this technology, it has to request compressed data from the RAM.
The compressed data is then transmitted to the CPU for decompression, and the GPU can then be displayed on the screen.
Therefore, DirectStorage makes games much faster on Windows 11 devices by avoiding load times and reducing pop-ups.
Requirements to run the DirectStorage function in Windows 11
For this technology to work on Windows 11 or even Windows 10 devices, several conditions must be met:
- Your computer must have an NVME PCIe Gen 3 SSD. However, Gen 4 PCIe 4.0 drives are recommended for maximum performance.
- Your computer must have a graphics card that supports DirectX 12 or higher.
- The computer must be running Windows 10, version 1909 or later.
Regardless of the hardware details, DirectStorate will not fully run on a Windows 10 PC because Windows 10 Storage is not properly compatible with the new API.
On the other hand, users of the new operating system can take full advantage of the DirectStorage functionality. So if you want to get the most out of your PC while gaming, you will need to update to the new version as soon as it is officially released.
