Google TV allows Android phones to be used as remote controls |
Google has introduced a virtual remote control function in the Google TV app, making it easier for users to control Android TV devices.
This functionality first appeared in March in version 4.25 of the app. Although the feature was not active at the time, you can enable it manually to understand what will happen when it is finally rolled out in a future release.
At I/O 2021 in May, the company later announced that it will create a remote control function directly in Android mobile phones, making it easier for all users to control Android TV devices.
The new virtual remote control function is an improved version that first appeared on the market in March of this year.
It has a large trackpad that you can use to navigate your Android TV, back button, home button, Google Assistant button, and volume control.
You can access your new remote by clicking the new floating action button (the button with the icon on your remote) in the Google TV app. Or by adding your TV remote control to your phone's quick settings.
To add a tile, swipe down twice from the top of the screen to open Quick Settings, then tap the Edit button in the lower left corner to add a new tile. Then tap and hold on the new TV remote control box and drag it to the drag-and-drop section to add the box.

Although the remote control does not have its own button to bring up the phone keypad. It allows you to enter passwords and searches through Android TV.
All you have to do is use the remote control to select any text input field on Android TV. The keyboard will appear automatically.
This feature also allows you to insert text to further speed up the process. The TV remote control also allows you to switch between the trackpad and the arrow keys.
The company is now the first to introduce a new virtual remote control feature in the United States. But he plans to roll it out to 14 other countries in the coming weeks.
