DJI Smartphone Stabilizer Selfie Stick |
DJI just launched the Osmo Mobile 5, a new smartphone mount that includes a selfie stick built into the handle.
The Osmo Mobile 5 retains the same foldable design principles as its predecessors. But there are some subtle changes.
This year's stabilizer is a bit smaller and lighter in weight. Users note that the angle of the handle is sharper than before to accommodate the 8.4-inch selfie stick.
There is also a new button on the handle that gives you quick access to some of the basic functions of the Osmo Mobile 5.
But with design changes, battery life will be severely affected. The nominal battery life of the Osmo Mobile 4 is 15 hours, while the battery life of the Osmo Mobile 5 has been reduced to 6 hours and 20 minutes.
When the company launched the Osmo Mobile 4, its main feature was a pair of magnetic mounts that allow the phone to be easily attached to the stand.
However, the phone holder requires extra effort to use a larger phone than usual, especially if the phone has a case.
Therefore, the company has improved the magnetic clasp to expand it further. But like last year, the magnets are still not compatible with Apple's MagSafe magnets.
Osmo Mobile 5 is also equipped with an improved stabilizer engine, and has added a new smart feature, Shotguides.
Osmo Mobile 5 analyzes your surroundings and gives you up to 30 techniques and guidelines for video recording with this stabilizer.
After capturing all recommended clips, the installer will automatically edit and combine them into a single video in the DJI Mimo app.

Other smart tracking features from DJI have also been improved. Active Track 4.0 is now improved for face recognition and tracking, which improves responsiveness.
All of the pre-programmed recording modes for Osmo Mobile 4 are also available through Osmo Mobile 5. In addition to other standard modes we've seen before like Hyperlapse, Timelapse, and Motionlapse.
The Osmo Mobile 5 is available in gray and white. DJI also sells a new optional accessory, the DJI Fill Light Phone Clamp, for $79. This is similar to a standard magnetic ring. But the built-in light will help brighten your selfies.
With the release of Osmo Mobile 5, Osmo Mobile 4 was renamed Osmo Mobile SE. The installation procedure is the same as last year, including the same 15-hour battery life. But with the improved magnetic buckle, it costs just $119.
The Osmo Mobile 5 is available now and costs $159, $10 more than the Osmo Mobile 4, and about $30 more than the Osmo Mobile 3 at launch.
The Osmo Mobile 5 is fitted with a carabiner, clip, tripod, hand strap and bag as standard.
