Discord begins YouTube integration testing |
A few weeks after Google's YouTube forced the suspension of two popular Discord music programs, Discord began testing its integration with YouTube.
As part of a new test of collaboration between the two platforms, YouTube integration has appeared on some Discord servers.
This feature is called Watch Together, and as the name suggests, it allows members of the platform to watch YouTube videos together.
A similar feature was first tested 10 months ago, then disappeared, and then reappeared as Watch Together. Due to the recent shutdown of the music bot, it appears that the platform has adjusted the priority of this feature.
Watch Together is similar to the screen casting experience on Discord, with a play button next to the video and screen sharing options.
It is specifically designed for YouTube and allows members of the platform server to create YouTube video playlists by searching or pasting YouTube links. You can even activate the remote control button to allow other members of the platform server to control the playback.
Although different from the popular music bots Rhythm and Groovy, you can use Watch Together to listen to music on YouTube on Discord.
The platform will notify you the first time you use Watch Together and you may see ads on YouTube videos.
This feature allows Discord servers to create playlists via YouTube
Weeks after YouTube began shutting down its Discord music offerings, Google's YouTube platform has increased its advertising and potential profit opportunities.
This company Google sent Groovy a letter of resignation with legal notice last month. This forced the famous service to stop within a few days. YouTube then turned its attention to the most famous music bot, Rhythm, who went bankrupt earlier this month.
Currently, integration is possible on a very limited number of servers. However, according to some reports, testing will be expanded in the coming weeks.
The platform's original goal is to make the feature available to all users by the end of October. If you'd like to try this feature out, it's currently available on Discord's Game Labs server.
