Apple announces iPhone 13 with a redesigned camera |
Apple has officially released its latest iPhone 13, the base and most popular model that will set the standard for the company's 2021 phone line.
Like last year, the iPhone 13 is available in two versions: the standard 6.1-inch model and the 5.4-inch iPhone 13 mini.
The Super Retina XDR display is still an OLED panel and the aluminum side is still sandwiched between two panels of glass.
iPhone 13 starts at $829 and the smaller iPhone 13 mini starts at $729. Storage options have been expanded for this year's models, and the company is offering 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB configurations for both models.
iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini pre-orders will begin Friday, September 17, before the September 24 release date.
There are not many new features or drastic changes here. Conversely, the iPhone 13 is closer to the older iPhone S model, with some design improvements from last year rather than huge new features.
But unlike the iPhone 12, which has undergone a major overhaul, the iPhone 13 has the same look and feel as the previous year's model. However, because Face ID's bumper is 20% smaller, it takes up less space at the top of the phone.
There's also a more powerful A15 Bionic processor, which the company claims is faster and more energy efficient than last year's A14 Bionic chip.
It's still a 5nm chip and a hexa-core processor (with two high-performance cores and four high-performance cores). But the company said it was the fastest processor in smartphones, 50% faster than its competitors. The graphics are also said to be 30% faster than the competition.
The biggest change comes from last year's iPhone 12 Pro Max camera technology. The iPhone 13 comes with an upgraded camera that the company first unveiled for its larger smartphone in 2020. The wide-angle camera has a 47% larger sensor than last year, which means it can capture more light with less noise in dark environments.

The new wide-angle sensor is a 12MP lens with f/1.6 aperture. The 12MP ultra-wide-angle camera has a faster f/2.4 aperture and a 120-degree field of view.
The iPhone 13 also features the sensor displacement stabilization technology that the company introduced in the iPhone 12 Pro Max last year. This actually moves the sensor away to reduce vibration.
The new camera also uses the image profile that the company introduced in the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max models. This allows you to further customize the appearance of the image to improve the consistency of the image.
The company has also introduced a new cinematic video mode that allows changing the focus effect in brackets during a video.
When recording a video, Cinema Mode will automatically switch focus when recording in real time. When people enter or leave the camera, the focus is shifted intelligently.
You can also change focus manually or lock focus on a specific object for more precise control. The front camera also supports video mode.
The company also promised to improve 5G performance compared to the iPhone 12 and provide more frequency bands for a better international 5G experience. The company also promised that the iPhone will support 200 wireless carriers in more than 60 countries and regions by the end of this year.
The new iPhone 13 series also offers better battery life. iPhone 13 mini battery life is 1.5 hours longer than iPhone 12 mini battery life. Compared to iPhone 12, iPhone 13 has a battery life of 2.5 hours. This is due to a larger battery, better performance than the A15 Bionic, and additional software improvements.
