Why did the Apple Ping social network fail? |
Millions of people use social media every day. There is no doubt that this is an important part of the Internet today. Ten years ago, Apple had its own social network.
Apple's social network is called Ping. It competes directly with Facebook, Twitter, and MySpace. However, this network was not successful enough, nor did it catch the attention of Apple itself.
This network was introduced by Steve Jobs himself. Although this is a website, it can only be accessed through iTunes.
Pinged from the Apple social network
Steve Jobs said when announcing the new network that it will be a mixture of Facebook and Twitter, but within iTunes. Jobs was right, on the one hand, the social network looks like Facebook. On the other hand, it has Twitter-inspired elements and functions.
Users can ping from iTunes version 10.0. There is a section in the application area called Ping.
Users can search and follow friends, celebrities or artists, or view their profiles and posts.
Causes of ping errors
Apple's social network offers an integrated user experience. There is no doubt that it can compete with Twitter and Facebook, especially since the network has the same number of users as iTunes - 160 million users.
However, this does not mean that all iTunes users should use the social network. On the other hand, Apple limits its network to the app, which requires you to download and install the software in order to access it.
Users are not very interested in this network, nor are the company's managers themselves, including Tim Cook, who believes that investing in this network is a failed investment.
All of these elements led to the announcement of the final closure of the network and the ban on registration of new members on September 30, 2012.
As we all know, the Google social network suffered the same fate, but the difference between Google and Apple is that it took a long time for the former to make the final decision to shut down the social network.
