Spotify plans to add AirPlay 2 to its app |
Spotify still hasn't added AirPlay 2 support to its iOS app. But despite the delay, she is still working hard to make that a reality.
When a music streaming service representative wrote on a community forum, someone had doubts about the inclusion of AirPlay 2: We've discussed this idea internally. Although we have decent support for AirPlay 2, we have decided to pause it.
The actor blamed the compatibility issue with audio drivers. So he said, "It looks like this is a bigger project that we won't be able to complete anytime soon."
The music streaming service claimed it was a mistake. She said AirPlay 2 support will continue. An article on our community page contains incomplete information about our AirPlay2 software. We are working hard to support AirPlay 2 and hope it becomes a reality.
Apple introduced AirPlay 2 as part of iOS 11.4 three years ago in May 2018. Several improvements have been made to the original AirPlay wireless audio protocol. Includes multi-room audio, Siri voice control, and improved buffering.
The app can support AirPlay 2 through the AVFoundation API. The four-step process is described on the Apple developer site.
Last year, the company also enabled support for third-party music services through the HomePod and HomePod mini.
In March 2019, Spotify filed a complaint with the European Commission, accusing Apple of blocking it and other Apple competitors from accessing products like Siri, HomePod and Apple Watch.
Spotify wants AirPlay 2 support
The platform still does not support HomePod speakers. You can listen to music from the app via Siri, and download Spotify tracks via your Apple Watch.
You can connect streaming services to your smart TV and speakers via AirPlay or Spotify Connect.
Users of the platform will not be able to officially use AirPlay 2 features such as low latency, multi-room audio, and Siri controls for a short period of time.
However, since AirPlay is built into iOS, it can still be used with any audio app as long as you use the OS-wide playback controls instead of the Spotify app.
