Sony reveals details of the next generation of PSVR |
Sony hosted a developer summit with new information about its game development strategy planned for the next generation of PlayStation VR headsets and the PSVR lineup.
Developer Summit confirmed some of the reported features. One new detail is that the next generation of PSVR virtual reality glasses can tell when the joystick is being held, the button is touched and how far away the fingers are.
This feature is somewhat similar to the radar detection that Google used in the past to integrate Soli chips into its mobile phones and smart home devices.
Sony also told developers that it is looking for a hybrid model for future versions of AAA games released on PlayStation.
The goal is to provide optional VR support for all major versions, similar to the support Resident Evil 7 and No Man's Sky get on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
And you still need a controller to use PSVR. But if that plan is correct, now is the time to choose whether to play important AAA games in VR or on TV.
Sony publicly announced the next generation of PSVR in February. Details of the new console's features were made available shortly thereafter.
Sony reveals details of the next generation of PSVR
Taking into account official device information and possible spec leaks, we currently know the following about the next generation of PSVR:
- Next generation PSVRs connect to the PlayStation game console by cable and do not require a lock box.
- The glasses use a high-resolution OLED screen with a resolution of 2000 x 2040 pixels per eye (4K total resolution) and the field of view is expanded by 110 degrees (10 degrees wider than PSVR).
- The company plans to use flexible metering accuracy and flexible display through eye tracking. This allows the device to display only what you see. The goal is to reduce stress on PSVR and PlayStation 5 and improve performance.
- The company is using reverse tracking for the next generation of PSVR. The company said the device's control hardware includes adaptive triggers, haptic feedback, and haptic buttons. It should be able to recognize the distance between the finger and the device.
When all of these features are implemented, it means that the Japanese company has adopted a variety of new VR standards. Sponsored by Oculus Quest and Quest 2. Some advanced features in Valve Index and HTC Vive Pro.
According to Bloomberg News, Sony won't release any new PSVR glasses until the 2022 Holidays, but the company may reveal more details later this year.
