China proposes to tightly control the algorithm |
China publishes draft guidelines to monitor recommendations of algorithm companies to users
After a series of regulatory raids in recent months, China has yet to fully contain the impact of domestic internet services on the world's most populous market.
In a draft 30-point guideline, the China Cyberspace Administration proposed banning companies from using algorithms that encourage addiction or high consumption, endanger national security or disrupt public order.
The services shall respect the principles of business ethics and fairness. Its algorithm should not be used to create fake user accounts or other false impressions. This is in line with the guidelines of the Internet Regulatory Agency, which reports to the central leadership group under President Xi Jinping.
The regulator said it would receive public comments on the new guidelines within a month (until September 26).
The guide also suggests that users should be able to turn off the algorithm's recommendations easily.
Providers of algorithms that can influence public opinion or mobilize citizens must be approved by Internet regulators.
The proposal came at a time when Beijing is increasingly targeting businesses. This is due to its handling of consumer data and its monopoly in the country.
The Beijing-backed China Consumer Association said earlier this year that domestic internet companies are using purchases and promotions to intimidate users and jeopardize their privacy rights.
Investors are shocked by Beijing's recent crackdown on data security and strict oversight of advisory services. In addition to eliminating hundreds of billions of dollars.
China proposes to tightly control the algorithm
The new guidelines appear to be based on Bytedance, Alibaba, Tencent, Didi, etc. Its services are based on proprietary algorithms.
In recent years, some governments, including the United States and India, have tried to better understand how the algorithms of these big tech companies work and put in place control measures to prevent abuse.
