Amazon protests Starlink's second generation plan

Amazon has asked the Federal Communications Commission to reject SpaceX's revised plan to develop its second-generation Starlink network because the plan would violate regulations on the use of satellites.

When Amazon published the protest letter, the company was developing its own satellite internet system, Project Kuiper, which had yet to start.

Starlink, on the other hand, has 1,740 satellites in orbit serving 100,000 users in 12 countries. The network currently offers download speeds ranging from 50 Mbit/s to 150 Mbit/s or more.

However, to increase coverage and speed up, SpaceX is seeking approval from the Federal Communications Commission to operate its second-generation Starlink network of nearly 30,000 satellites.

Amazon claimed the plan was too broad and in violation of Federal Communications Commission regulations regarding satellite deployment requests.

The e-commerce giant has indicated that SpaceX's offering of the second generation network aims to secure licenses for two potential configurations of nearly 30,000 Starlink satellites.

SpaceX intends to use a single configuration during actual deployment. The company's application also states that the second training provided is intended as a backup.

In the letter, Amazon said that SpaceX's new way of ordering two different potential configurations is against commission rules and public order. We ask the Committee to reject this amendment. The commission's rules require SpaceX to specify the details of proposed changes before the application is submitted, not after the application is submitted.

As a result, Amazon asked the FCC to reject the current form of the plan. SpaceX is supposed to tell the FCC where satellites are around the Earth.

Amazon's complaint is that SpaceX is asking the FCC to approve two completely different orbital configurations to choose from.

According to the company, the relaxation of the rules could encourage SpaceX and other companies to get permission for speculative inquiries to secure access to various satellite configurations.

She said: When the committee canceled its rules and agreed on a method for multiple formations that are not mutually exclusive. The consequences go far beyond the changes to SpaceX

SpaceX offers two variants, the first being based on the Starship craft, which is still under development to power Starlink satellites. The second configuration uses the existing Falcon 9 reusable rocket.

"The modified second generation system improves customer service and better meets the needs of broadband services with low bandwidth and low latency," SpaceX said. Especially in underserved and unserved areas. Few satellites were used.

This news came shortly after Jeff Bezos, the former CEO of Amazon, criticized NASA. That's because SpaceX gave him a lunar landing contract, not his space company Blue Origin.

Elon Musk has criticized billionaire Jeff Bezos for filing a lawsuit against space company SpaceX. "I found that Bezos was retiring to file a full-time complaint against SpaceX," he said.
