Qualcomm launches a $1,500 smartphone

Qualcomm, the company behind the Snapdragon processors and modems that power nearly all Android smartphones, makes its own products.

Qualcomm worked with Asustek to create a custom device called the Smartphone for Snapdragon Insiders, a $1,500 cell phone designed to demonstrate the chipmaker's technology.

As the name suggests, Qualcomm sold this phone directly to members of the Snapdragon Insider fan base, which Qualcomm launched earlier this year.

In terms of the actual use of Qualcomm technology, this smartphone is no different from other leading Android phones.

In addition, the phone is equipped with an Android system with a storage space of 512 GB and 16 GB RAM.

There's a 6.78-inch OLED display from Samsung that supports a 144Hz refresh rate and Gorilla Glass Victus, and there's a fingerprint scanner on the back with Qualcomm's 3D Sonic Sensor Gen 2 technology.

Qualcomm's new hardware shares a lot in common with the Asus ROG Phone 5 Ultimate.

Qualcomm's Snapdragon 888 is used as a processor, although the company has announced a more powerful Snapdragon 888 Plus model.

The battery provides 4000 mAh of power and supports the Quick Charge 5 standard. However, it does not use its full potential: it can charge up to 65W, but the speed does not exceed 100W.

The back of the phone is equipped with a triple camera and the main lens is a 64-megapixel Sony IMX686 image sensor. The ultra-wide sensor uses the older Sony IMX363 12MP sensor. There is an 8-megapixel telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom. And a front camera accurately 24 megapixels.

Qualcomm released a smartphone

Qualcomm pledges that the Triple Camera will provide a professional camera experience. But the Spectra 580's triple image signal processor won't reach its limits like this.

The phone can record 8K at 30 fps and 4K at 30 or 60 fps. It cannot process three 4K HDR videos at the same time or take three 28MP photos at the same time.

This smartphone is among the first to offer the new Snapdragon Sound rating from Qualcomm. High-resolution music of up to 24-bit 96kHz is expected to be played.

Qualcomm also includes Master and Dynamic earplugs so you can take advantage of Snapdragon voice feedback.

Another area where Snapdragon-branded phones could stand out is 5G support.

Qualcomm is proud of the fact that this phone offers the most complete support for all 5G bands and subgroups in a single device. It also supports Wi-Fi 6, Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2.

This smartphone will be available in the US, China, UK and Germany in August. It will be released in other regions later.
