| Atari focuses on computer games more than mobile phones |
As part of its big strategy, Atari is shifting its focus from free mobile games to PC and platform games.
In a recent statement, the company announced that its board of directors approved the new plan on July 1, following a thorough review of the assets and capabilities of the Atari Gaming division.
Atari has a long history in the gaming industry and is one of the pioneers in the concept of the modern home gaming platform.
The redirect came less than a month after the release of the much-anticipated Atari VCS platform, which can be used both as an old gaming console and as a PC.
By reallocating these resources, Atari intends to leverage its extensive list of 200 intellectual property rights to develop high-quality games that can be deployed on all platforms.
Atari said it relies on its portfolio of 200 games and franchise products such as Asteroids, Centipede, Missile Command, and Pong to create new content for VCS and other platforms.
The first new issues are expected to hit the market in the current fiscal year, which ends on March 31, 2022.
The new game is also optimized on the Atari VCS platform, which was released in the US about three weeks ago after years of development.
At the same time, the reorganization has caused problems with some of its mobile games, and many are expected to be discontinued or sold.
Affected games include Roller Coaster Tycoon Story, Crystal Castle, Castle and Catapult, Ninja Golf, and Atari Battle: Tank Fury.

Despite being shocked by the competition in the free-to-play market, the company hasn't given up on games it believes are successful.
