TCL launches wearable display glasses |
TCL said the wearable display glasses will launch in Australia in July at a price of around $680 and will launch in other markets later.
The company has been flirting with this concept for two years. It was shown at CES Virtual earlier this year.
TCL calls the NxtWear G and confirms that in its current form it is not a virtual reality or augmented reality device.
Instead, it acts as an external display for a laptop or notebook with two 1080p OLED panels that give the impression of a 140-inch screen.
This portable monitor is suitable for mobile phones, tablets and laptops with DisplayPort USB-C function, including the latest MacBook, iPad Pro and Galaxy S21 series phones.
The NXTWear G uses a sunglasses-like design. Connects directly to your device. It displays the content on a 16:9 screen in front of you. It's also very light as everything, including the cable, weighs 130 grams.
Although TCL recommends wireless headphones or earphones, stereo speakers are built into the frame.
There is no battery in it. Instead, the NXTWear G is powered by devices connected to it using a USB Type C cable.
In another global announcement at Mobile World Congress, TCL announced a new screen sharing feature called multi-screen collaboration for its smartphones.
TCL offers wearable viewing glasses:
Multi-screen collaboration is only available for TCL 20 Pro 5G. It enables phone owners to wirelessly share files, photos, clipboard content, and messages with a compatible Windows 10 laptop or PC.
You can also share photos and videos from your phone to your TCL TV.
In this mode, the phone acts as a touchpad, allowing you to move the cursor on the TV screen to select a photo or clip to play.
TCL has announced that this feature will be rolled out to the 20 Pro 5G via software updates in the coming months.
TCL also revealed a new wearable for kids called Movetime Family Watch 2. It's a kid-friendly version of a fourth-generation smartwatch designed for seniors.
This watch is equipped with a 1.54 inch screen for audio and video calls. It has real-time location tracking and geolocation, IP65 housing and up to 7 days of battery standby time. This watch is on sale in Europe for 149 euros since mid-August.
