Six-year-old iPhone 6S gets iOS 15 |
Apple's iPhone 6S will turn its sixth year in September, which is a long time for smartphones.
If you've owned a device like this for a long time, Apple says this phone will be eligible for the iOS 15 update when it goes on sale this fall.
The first generation iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus, and iPhone SE with iOS 9 will be among the first devices to receive operating system updates.
Six years is too long for any mobile device. iPhone 6S is the oldest supported smartphone to date.
When the iPhone 5S received the latest iOS 12 update, it was already five years old. But it does not meet the requirements of iOS 13.
As for Android, Samsung has taken steps to improve the life of its devices by providing four years of security support for some of its phones.
But six years of operating system updates and security support have put the iPhone 6S in a completely different position.
iPhone 6S is still supported:
There must be a lot of new features that don't apply to the 6-year-old A9 Bionic processor.
iPhone 6S users can't use features like real-time visual search and text in photos and FaceTime selfies, and immersive hiking trails in Maps. This is because devices with an A12 Bionic chip, similar to the iPhone XS and iPhone XR or later, need all of these features.
Newer software can also slow down older phones with older, less intelligent processors. This doesn't necessarily have to be the case, as the report found no significant performance degradation when using iOS 14 on the iPhone 6S.
As both testers have pointed out, the biggest issue may be that the iPhone 6S battery life has tripled, indicating its age.
Features like widgets are difficult to use on the phone's 4.7-inch screen, which is smaller than a 6-inch or larger screen.
However, iPhone 6S users will still receive potentially useful updates like Notification Summary and Focus Mode to help reduce glitches throughout the day.
In addition to that, they can also share videos and music in Facetime. and additional data protection functions, such as b. 7-day app privacy report to track how apps use your information.
There are also security patches and bug fixes that ship with iOS 15 throughout the year.
