Samsung 5G phone sales are growing fast |
Although Apple continues to dominate the market, Samsung had the fastest growing global 5G mobile shipments in the first quarter of 2021.
According to Strategy Analytics, Samsung's 5G smartphone sales grew 79% between the fourth quarter of 2020 and the first quarter of 2021.
Samsung's revenue growth has significantly outpaced 5G revenue growth by 6%, as has Apple, whose iPhone 5G sales are down 23% from the previous month.
This largely reflects iPhone sales in the last quarter of last year.
Apple is still the largest seller of 5G smartphones. Although shipments are low.
In the first quarter of 2021, 40.4 million iPhone 5G phones were shipped, while runner-up Oppo shipped 21.5 million.
Vivo shipped 19.4 million, Samsung 17 million and Xiaomi 16.6 million.
According to the company, global sales of 5G smartphones reached 136 million units in the first quarter of 2021.
Strategy Analytics estimates that 5G smartphones made up 37% of global smartphone shipments in the first quarter of 2021.
They estimate it will represent 43% of the 610 million smartphones expected to be sold this year. In fact, a third of 5G smartphones shipped by the end of the year will cost less than $300.
Samsung sales increase
The Galaxy S21 5G, Galaxy S21 ultra 5G, and Galaxy S21+ 5G phones performed well in South Korea, North America, and parts of Europe.
According to Strategy Analytics, Vivo was the second fastest growing 5G smartphone provider in the first quarter of 2021.
Vivo sales increased 62% to 19 million units compared to the previous month. Powered by iQOO U3 5G and U7 5G smartphones.
Vivo 5G smartphones performed best in China and Europe. During this period, Oppo's sales increased by 55%. Thanks to sales in China, Xiaomi's sales increased by 41%.
And Apple's shipments declined in the first quarter of 2021. This is because it sold a lot when it launched the iPhone 12 series in the fourth quarter of 2020.
