OnePlus has become a sub-brand of Oppo

OnePlus CEO Pete Lau said last week that the company is more integrated with OPPO but did not explain how it works in practice.

Now leaker Evan Blass has received a chat thread for OnePlus' PR that explains the integration more clearly.

The document says that through the integration, OnePlus has become a trademark of Oppo but continues to operate as a separate entity.

The memo also noted that Pete Lau's role as Oppo Product Manager makes him responsible for Oppo and OnePlus product strategy.

OnePlus is believed to be primarily seen as a sub-brand of Oppo that maintains an independent consumer-centric operation but integrates business activities in areas other than product development.

The note indicated that this is essentially what is happening. "By merging the two companies, we will have more resources to develop better products," she said. It also enables us to improve operational efficiency.

The global version of OnePlus phones ran on OxygenOS, and before HydrogenOS was replaced by Oppo ColorOS, the Chinese model was running HydrogenOS.

Due to the company's deeper integration into Oppo, OnePlus customers are afraid to replace OxygenOS with ColorOS.

Liu noted that OxygenOS is still the operating system for global OnePlus devices outside the Chinese market.

The memo asks employees not to answer any questions about the operating system or ColorOS. And I gave the following answer to the request: We do not currently have OS updates.

Oppo's OnePlus sub-brand:

At the beginning of the year, OnePlus and Oppo merged their research and development divisions. Therefore, more integration should simplify daily business operations.

OnePlus customers don't necessarily expect a lot of changes, as shared ownership and supply chain mean similarities between Oppo and OnePlus phones.

With OnePlus recognizing their relationship rather than being a shaky startup, all eyes are on the company's next flagship.

OnePlus co-founders Pete Lau and Carl Bay previously worked at Oppo. OnePlus CEO Liu became Oppo's second product manager in May 2020.

Since then, it has integrated several OnePlus teams with Oppo to better streamline our operations and take advantage of additional shared resources.

After OnePlus saw the positive effects of these changes, it decided to further integrate its organization into Oppo. The announcement came six months after OnePlus merged its research and development resources with Oppo.
