Tesla announced that it can switch to Tesla Vision without radar |
After CEO Elon Musk publicly announced his desire to rely on cameras to power the company's advanced driver assistance system, Autopilot, Tesla stopped manufacturing front radar sensors in the Model 3 and Model Car Y in North America.
Tesla (Tesla) has announced the official switching of the Model 3 and Model Y to the Tesla Vision without radar and has warned of some restrictions on autonomous driving functions at the start of the process.
Tesla is developing a vision-based autopilot version as part of a limited pilot program for its full autopilot program.
However, it has not been determined whether the automatic navigation system would operate without the radar sensors, as it restricts or deactivates certain functions of these vehicles indefinitely.
In the past few months, Tesla has talked about moving autonomous driving and fully autonomous driving technology to use only camera-based computer vision instead of relying on front-end radar.
The company announced that we will continue to switch to the Tesla Vision camera-based automatic consulting system and begin shipping it from May 2021. The Model 3 and Y cars developed for the North American market will not be equipped with radar.
"This will be the first batch of Tesla cars that rely on camera vision and neural network processing to provide autonomous driving, fully autonomous driving, and some active safety features," she added.
The automaker cautioned that the move puts some key limitations to the Autosteer program, the autopilot feature, and the Smart Summon fully automated drivetrain feature.
The autopilot is limited to a top speed of 120 km / h and longer tracking distances, and can deactivate the intelligent callback (if available) and avoid leaving emergency lanes on delivery.
As always, Tesla plans to improve the technology through wireless software updates to restore these features and outpace the existing ones.
"In the coming weeks, we will begin to restore these functions through a series of wireless software updates so that all available autopilot and autopilot functions are activated," she said.
The latest version of Tesla Vision was first developed as part of a fully independent test drive program that was tested as part of the Early Experience program.
The company initially focused on the Model 3 and Model Y and only relied on sight systems.
The company wrote: Moving to Tesla Vision allows us to analyze a large amount of real data in a short period of time, thus speeding up job creation based on Tesla's vision.
