| Microsoft has officially announced the end of Internet Explorer |
After more than 25 years, Microsoft will stop using Internet Explorer next year.
The importance of Internet Explorer is gradually disappearing as other competing browsers (such as Google Chrome) have replaced Internet Explorer.
In April, Internet Explorer accounted for less than 2% of the global market for desktop browsers while Google Chrome accounted for more than 65% of the market.
In the browser wars of nearly 20 years and the US government's antitrust war against software giants, the browser has some great features.
For many years, most consumers did not use the old web browser, but Microsoft terminated Internet Explorer on June 15, 2022 and discontinued Internet Explorer in favor of Microsoft Edge.
The company said: We announced that the future of Internet Explorer on Windows 10 will be Microsoft Edge, the Internet Explorer 11 desktop application will end, and support for some versions of Windows 10 will end on June 15, 2022.
While Windows 10's long-running LTSC service channel will continue to include Internet Explorer for the next year, all consumer releases will end browser support.
Microsoft hasn't clarified this, but we might see the end of Internet Explorer for Windows in June 2022 or later.
For most companies, the alternative will be Microsoft Edge with IE mode, and Microsoft created IE mode two years ago, which allows companies to use new Chromium-based browsers for old websites.
IE Mode supports legacy ActiveX controls and legacy sites, and many companies still use them.
Microsoft promises to support this IE mode in Microsoft Edge at least before 2029.
Microsoft ended support for Internet Explorer 11 for the Microsoft Teams web app last year and plans to block access to Microsoft 365 services later this year.
Internet Explorer 11 no longer supports Microsoft online services like Office 365, OneDrive, Outlook, etc. August 17.
For more than five years, Microsoft has also tried to stop people from using Internet Explorer.
Microsoft Edge made its debut in 2015, ending the Internet Explorer branding.
Since then, the company has viewed Internet Explorer as a compromise rather than a browser, and has recommended that you stop using your old browser and switch to the new IE browser.
