Facebook changed its algorithm after accusing Instagram of bias |
After a group of employees complained that users were unable to view pro-Palestinian content during the conflict in Gaza, Facebook changed its Instagram algorithm.
The company confirmed that Instagram normally features original content in its stories before reposting the content. Now, however, I have begun to evaluate and share the original content equally.
As reported by the Financial Times, Instagram employees made numerous requests for content that has been blocked by automatic monitoring, such as: B- Wrongly deleted posts from Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Employees do not consider censorship intentional, but some say that widespread oversight is biased in favor of a marginalized group.
A Facebook spokesperson said: This change is due to concerns about pro-Palestinian content. The company realized that the way the Instagram algorithm worked led people to believe that certain points of view or topics would be deleted.
He added: This applies to every newly published post in history, regardless of the topic.
Claims of damage:
In recent weeks, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram have come under fire for their criticism of the conflict between Israel and Palestine.
Earlier this month, the Twitter platform restricted the account of a Palestinian writer and later said: It is a mistake.
On May 6, Instagram apologized after several accounts were unable to post content on Palestine for several hours. Instagram manager Adam Mosseri (Adam Mosseri) said about the move: This is due to a technical bug in the Instagram algorithm.
Instagram said: People care more about original stories of close friends than people care about re-sharing other people's photos and posts. So the original story takes precedence.
"The number of referrals has increased," the spokesman said. We have seen that the impact of these attitudes exceeded expectations. The story reposted the feed wasn't what people expected, and it's not a good experience.
Instagram believes that users would like to see the original story, so it is exploring how Instagram's algorithm can be tweaked to focus the story on the original content.
