YouTube gives you more control over the video resolution |
YouTube offers a number of enhanced in-stream video resolution options that iOS and Android users can use to customize their viewing experience.
YouTube is one of the most popular video streaming apps in the world, and millions of people rely on it every day for news and entertainment.
However, when determining the resolution or quality of a video stream, not everyone has the same preferences or needs.
New server-side settings reduce data consumption slightly when watching videos on the go.
In addition to the resolution set in the video player, you can now switch between three different modes suitable for video quality, data usage, or the mode best suited to your existing internet connection.
So far, users have been able to select the broadcast quality individually or automatically, which automatically changes the quality according to the Internet connection speed.
The new controls provide an easier set of new options for users who don't understand video resolution.
The first option is higher image quality, as more data is used to provide better quality broadcasts.
While YouTube hasn't specified this, the new option offers a resolution of 720p and above.
If you are using limited data, you can choose the second option, Data Saver, which sets the resolution to 480 pixels as a maximum, but reduces the resolution to 144 pixels as a minimum.
The automatic option is still there and it dynamically adjusts the streaming quality based on your current internet speed for the best possible experience.
There is also an advanced option that lets you choose the specific resolution of the video you want to play and set the resolution to 4K.
You should enable this option for each video that you watch. By default, you cannot play all videos in a certain resolution.
