| WhatsApp fixes bugs that put user data at risk |
On Monday, WhatsApp said it has fixed a bug in its old version of the program and there is no reason to believe that these vulnerabilities have been completely abused.
The official statement was released immediately after the recent announcement by India's cybersecurity agency CERT-In warning WhatsApp users that some security holes in the app could lead to the disclosure of sensitive information.
A WhatsApp spokesperson said: We regularly work with security researchers to improve the many ways in which WhatsApp protects people's information. As usual with software products, we have fixed bugs in the old version. So we have no reason to believe that this is the case.
The spokesperson added that the WhatsApp platform will remain secure and end-to-end encryption will continue to protect people's information in the way expected.
In a risk assessment advisory report published by CERT-In or the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team, the following was found: Vulnerabilities were discovered in WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business in Android versions prior to 2.21.4.18 and Android versions prior to 2.21.32. iOS.
The consultation detailed and identified these risks: the existence of these vulnerabilities is due to border issues in the configuration cache and a lack of audio decoding pathways.
The warning indicated that several vulnerabilities in WhatsApp could allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or access sensitive information through the target person's system.
The consultation recommends that users use the latest version of WhatsApp from the Google Play Store or the iOS App Store to update their device and address the vulnerability threat.
