Sony announces the next Xperia phone on April 14th |
Sony announced on the Sony Xperia Channel banner on the YouTube platform that the next Xperia event will take place on April 14th.
The sign indicated that the announcement of the new product will be released on the evening of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia at 10:30 in the morning.
The logo does not refer to any product expected to hit the market, but rumors are circulating about the new flagship of the Xperia 1 III.
The Xperia 1 III flagship is expected to feature a 5x or 10x periscope zoom lens. The special periscope lens is manufactured in-house by Sony's Cyber Shot division.
The flagship is equipped with a 64MP wide-angle main camera lens and a 12MP ultra-wide angle sensor.
In addition to the expected camera specifications, the device also uses Qualcomm's Snapdragon 888 processor and comes with 12/16 GB of RAM and 256/512 GB of internal storage.
The 6.5-inch 4K OLED screen supports HDR, 10-bit color, 120Hz refresh rate, and 21: 9 aspect ratio.
Sony was the first to introduce this aspect ratio format. This aspect ratio has become a unique feature for Xperia phones because the taller the screen, the larger the display area.
Other specifications include a 5000 mAh battery that supports 65W fast charging and an SD slot.
Information also revolves around the possible return of the Xperia Compact, which could be Android's answer to the iPhone Mini.
The 2021 version of the compact phone is expected to come with a 5.5-inch screen slightly larger than the iPhone Mini.
Sony recently released a compact phone in 2018, despite the term being used for the Xperia 5 II's 6.1-inch screen, which is roughly the same size as the iPhone 12 Pro or Galaxy S21.
Rumor has it that two potential phones - the Xperia 1 III and the Xperia Compact - have headphone jacks.
