The Seagate Skyhawk ST2000VX015 surveillance hard drive has 2TB storage, unmatched data protection, ATA broadcast support, and can accommodate up to 64 HD cameras. Serial ATA interface (SATA) offers several advantages over the traditional ATA (parallel) interface. The main advantages are: Easy to install and configure with true plug-and-play connectivity. You do not need to set jumpers or other configuration options. Thinner and more flexible cables improve airflow in the case and make installation easier. Scalable to higher levels of performance. Additionally, SATA makes the transition from parallel ATA easier by supporting the older version of the software. SATA is designed to allow users to install SATA host adapters and SATA hard drives in their current systems, and it is hoped that all current applications will be able to operate normally. SATA interface connects each drive to a SATA host adapter in a point-to-point configuration. SATA devices do not have a master / slave relationship like Parallel ATA. When two drives are connected to a single SATA host adapter, the host operating system displays the two devices as "master" devices on two separate ports. This basically means that both drives will behave as if they were 0 (main) devices. SATA host switch and hard disk sharing function to simulate the behavior of parallel ATA devices to ensure compatibility with current host systems and software. The command and control block records, data transfer and reset as well as the PIO and DMA interrupts are simulated. A SATA host key contains a series of data records that are used to hide content recorded by traditional devices, the so-called shadow recording blocks. All SATA devices behave like device 0.
